Verra Mobility has joined the OmniAir Consortium® as an Executive Private Sector member and will take part in the working groups where members develop the test specifications, policies and certification programs for intelligent transportation systems (ITS), electronic tolling and connected vehicle technologies. As an independent testing and certification authority and standards-setting body, OmniAir plays a key role in turning published industry standards and deployer requirements into certified, interoperable products. Verra Mobility will work alongside OmniAir’s members and the wider community of standards bodies, agencies and manufacturers that shape the future of connected mobility.
“Interoperability depends on the industry working together, and OmniAir’s testing and certification programs are a vital part of that effort,” said Cathi Chinn, Vice President of Innovation and Connected Vehicle Services at Verra Mobility. “We are proud to join this community of agencies, automakers, test laboratories and technology providers. Through this collaboration, we will combine our commercial operating experience with the expertise of OmniAir’s members to advance connected mobility, including the emerging area of V2X-enabled tolling, to improve the driver experience and support transportation agencies nationwide.”
V2X-based tolling is an emerging focus area within OmniAir’s broader work, and Verra Mobility’s commercial experience operating AutoKinex® has surfaced practical lessons that complement the field testing, and pilots at the core of OmniAir’s programs. Working through these challenges with OmniAir’s members, and with the other organizations that contribute to connected vehicle standards, will help the industry arrive at stronger, more widely adopted solutions.
Real-world operations have also revealed significant opportunities, including recovering revenue lost to unreadable plates, posting tolls in real time, and extending vehicle-based payment to parking, fueling and other services. Verra Mobility brings its operating experience, together with its relationships across toll authorities, automakers, rental car companies and commercial fleets, that can help inform OmniAir’s working groups, whose collective expertise across tolling, V2X, cybersecurity and ITS will ultimately drive the best outcomes.
Membership gives Verra Mobility a seat alongside the agencies, OEMs, test laboratories and technology providers that develop OmniAir’s certification programs, which the industry rely on for procurement and deployment decisions. Participation in OmniAir working groups and Plugfest testing events will help ensure Verra Mobility’s solutions are designed to interoperate with the broader transportation technology ecosystem from the start, and will extend the company’s Smart, Safe and Connected approach into the testing and certification that support how connected vehicles and infrastructure work together.
“We are pleased to welcome Verra Mobility as an Executive Member of OmniAir,” said Jason Conley, executive director of OmniAir Consortium. “Their experience in electronic tolling, connected vehicles, and smart mobility will bring an important perspective to our membership as we continue advancing interoperability, certification, and emerging transportation technologies.”
