School Bus Stop Arm Camera Regulations by State
August 14, 2025
As students across the country return to school, we want to take this time to remind all drivers to slow down in school zones and stop for all school buses so that we can protect our children on their daily commute to and from school.
Our data from the 2024–2025 school year, demonstrates how automated enforcement is making a measurable difference in school safety. Through our School Bus Stop Arm and School Zone Speed programs, we’ve seen significant improvements in driver behavior; proof that technology can help protect our most vulnerable road users – children.
School Bus Stop Arm Program: Fewer Violations, Safer Stops
With programs deployed across eight states, our school bus stop arm program issued more than 100,000 citations during the school year. But the real story is in the trend:
- 67% drop in citations from the beginning to the end of the school year
- 98% of drivers who received a citation did not reoffend
- 92% of events sent to the local police departments resulted in issued citations
These numbers show that drivers are changing their behavior and that public education is working to deter dangerous driving. The sharp decline in violations and the low rate of repeat offenses highlight how awareness and accountability can lead to safer school bus stops.
School Zone Speed Program: Slowing Down Where It Matters Most
Speeding in school zones puts children at serious risk. That’s why we partner with communities across all parts of the country to monitor and enforce speed limits in school zones. In the 2024–2025 school year:
- We recorded more than 6 million speeding violations
- The average speeder was going 13 mph over the posted limit
- 87% of violators did not receive a second citation
- There was a 24% drop in violations from the start to the end of the school year
The data shows that while speeding is still a concern, automated enforcement is helping drivers slow down and stay alert.
A Message to Schools and Communities
These results are more than just numbers, they represent safer streets, more mindful drivers, and a stronger commitment to student safety. Automated enforcement is not about fines and punishment; it’s about education, deterrence, and creating lasting change.
As we look ahead to the 2025–2026 school year, we remain committed to working hand-in-hand with schools, law enforcement, and local governments to make every school zone and school bus stop a safer place.
Let’s keep the momentum going. Because every child deserves a safe journey to and from school.
